For more than 30 years, the United Way of Hancock County has brought people together during Days of Caring, a community-wide effort to support local nonprofits through hands-on service. Marathon Petroleum (MPC) and its employees have played a major role since the beginning, working alongside other organizations in this long-running tradition of giving back.

During this year’s Spring Days of Caring, hundreds of employee volunteers from MPC’s Findlay campus spread out across the area over five days in May, joining many others in the community to help complete more than 80 projects benefiting over three dozen local agencies. According to United Way estimates, service hours topped 3,400, generating nearly $120,000 in savings for nonprofits across Hancock County.
"This event is such a powerful reminder of what we can do when we come together,” said Kelley McClurkin, CEO of United Way of Hancock County. “Every project and every hour served adds up to real, lasting impact. We’re so thankful for everyone who stepped up to make a difference."

Volunteers, usually assigned to groups of five or more, tackled everything from landscaping and painting to organizing supplies, cleaning up community spaces and helping plan events. They did much of it this year in less-than-ideal weather conditions. Despite early week rains and unusually cool temperatures, their spirits and energy to serve were undampened.

"You never really know what you’re going to get this time of year in Northwest Ohio, but our teams are always ready, and a little rain and cold didn’t stop us from showing up and getting it done," said Ashley Goecke, Community Relations Representative at Marathon Petroleum. "Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about lending a hand. It’s about what we can accomplish when we come together to make our community a better place."
The United Way of Hancock County will host its Fall Days of Caring event Sept. 15-17.
