A strong start in life often begins with access to books. Through community partnerships and employee‑led giving, Marathon Petroleum’s midstream segment MPLX continues to support programs that help children build early literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading.

Employees Jeremy Cantrell and Jennifer Hagerman recently presented a $2,000 donation to Friends of the Elk City Library in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, administered through the Elk City Carnegie Library.

Thanks to strong community collaboration, Imagination Library continues to expand its reach in Elk City. In 2025, the program served 885 children, mailing 8,787 books directly to their homes.

“Supporting literacy programs like Imagination Library is an investment in our community’s future,” said Cantrell, Senior Environmental Specialist for MPLX. “When children have access to books early in life, it builds confidence, curiosity and a strong foundation for learning that lasts well beyond the classroom.”

Since launching locally in 2023, Imagination Library has delivered 21,695 books to 1,209 children, helping build early literacy, school readiness, and a lifelong love of reading for children from birth to age five – at no cost to families. Continued support makes sure this impactful program can keep pace with growing demand and keep books in the hands of our youngest learners.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the world’s leading early childhood book-gifting program. The Imagination Library has gifted more than 300 million free books to children across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland. Every enrolled child receives one book per month from birth to age five at no cost to their families.
