MPC employees race to support U.S. Vets

Los Angeles, FoundationIn June, approximately 75 MPC employees and their families gathered to participate in the U.S. Vets - Long Beach “Storm the Beach” 5K/10K. Located adjacent to the Los Angeles refinery, U.S. Vets – Long Beach is a transitional housing facility for veterans.
The Marathon Petroleum Foundation, Inc. has provided $25,000 annual grants for several years to support the U.S. Vets initiative and its mission to support the successful transition of military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support. MPC’s annual grants help to provide these resources for more than 800 veterans and their families every day.
Andeavor Logistics also participated in the event through an exhibit, allowing them the opportunity to provide public education information on pipeline dig alert notifications.
For the race, MPC Government and Public Affairs Representative Olga Chavez worked with MPC Graphic Services to design MPC runner tank shirts to show MPC employee pride and increase MPC brand recognition in the community. Health and Safety Coordinator Ramon Martinez placed second in the 5K. Mother/Son combo, Maria Elena Guerrero and Giovanni Guerrero, family members of Machinist Oscar Guerrero, placed third in their respective 10K races.
