Marathon’s Anchorage, Alaska, terminal recently awarded a $10,000 First Responders Grant to the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD), reinforcing a longstanding partnership rooted in a shared commitment to community safety.
“For Marathon, safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a shared responsibility,” said Patrick Hallett, Terminal Operations Area Manager West-Northwest Area. “That’s why we proudly support local fire departments with advanced air monitoring equipment that helps protect both first responders and the communities we serve.”

The grant enables AFD to acquire cutting-edge air monitoring equipment that enhances their ability to respond safely and effectively to hazardous incidents. This technology helps firefighters establish safety zones and corridors when approaching potential threats, ultimately safeguarding both emergency responders and the public.
Air monitoring tools play a critical role during events such as spills, fires and hazardous materials releases. These devices detect toxic chemicals, including carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and volatile organic compounds, providing real-time data that guides decisions about evacuations, shelter-in-place orders, and responder safety. With this information, emergency teams can act quickly and confidently to identify risks and protect the community.
