Over the summer and fall, some of our employees and contractors had the opportunity to golf for a good cause, as several of our sites partnered with nonprofit organizations to host fundraising tournaments for local communities across the areas where we operate.
MPC’s community investment strategy is centered around strengthening communities and helping make people’s lives better. Read how these events will make a difference in our communities.
Catlettsburg, Kentucky
The Catlettsburg Refinery Golf Classic in May raised $120,000 for the United Way of Northeast Kentucky. Over 280 employees and contractors participated in the event at the Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland. Funding from this annual golf outing is used toward the annual giving campaign and goes to serve local agencies in Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Elliott and Lawrence counties. Grants focus on producing results that strengthen families, nurture children and youth, promote health and wellness, and empower neighborhoods and communities. The Catlettsburg refinery has hosted this annual golf outing for 20 years and raised more than $1.5 million for the United Way over the years.
Detroit, Michigan
The Detroit refinery hosted the Motor City Classic Golf outing in May and raised $250,000 for Habitat for Humanity. MPC employees and business partners enjoyed the event at Rouge Park Golf Course. The money raised will fund critical home repairs in the Southwest Detroit community.

The charitable tournament raised over $160,000 to support local community needs through food, utility assistance and educational programming.
Los Angeles

Employees and contractors from our Los Angeles refinery recently hosted their annual golf fundraiser, raising an impressive $540,000 to support low-income youth and families through three local YMCAs. This brings the total raised over the past two years alone to nearly $1 million. The event’s continued success underscores the dedication of everyone involved, from the planning stages to the final putt. The refinery’s Contractor Safety Council has been a major supporter year in and year out. Next year’s event will mark the 50th anniversary of this cherished charity event.

The Lincoln Teen Center provides after-school transportation, mentorship, personal development, food and activities for teens. Support is provided for those who would otherwise go to empty homes after school with limited groceries.
St. Paul Park, Minnesota
After a 5-year hiatus, the St. Paul Park refinery brought back its charity golf outing with remarkable success. On Aug. 29, the event at Logger’s Trail Golf Course in Stillwater, Minnesota, raised over $162,000 for Gillette Children’s Hospital. With 172 golfers enjoying two rounds of golf, great food and plenty of fun, this year’s outing showcased the power of community support. None of this would have been possible without many generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers. Gillette Children’s Hospital, a non-profit in St. Paul, provides specialized care for patients with brain, bone and movement conditions. Their extensive support services offer families comfort and healing.
