Justin “JP” Perry, Fleet Maintenance Coordinator at Marathon Petroleum, has been honored with the 2024 Fleet Maintenance Overachiever of the Year Award in the Support Staff category. This award recognizes his exceptional attention to detail, strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence, qualities that set him apart in his field.
The Overachiever of the Year Awards was launched by Fleet Maintenance magazine in 2023 to celebrate individuals who go above and beyond in maintenance roles, setting the standard for integrity and dedication in an industry where safety is paramount. As one of six winners, Perry’s recognition highlights his commitment to keeping Marathon Petroleum’s fleet running smoothly and safely.
“I’m very grateful for this recognition, but it’s truly a team effort,” said Perry. “I believe in doing things the right way, and this award reflects the great teamwork we have. I’m just doing my part, and it’s humbling to be acknowledged alongside so many talented professionals.”
Nominated by his teammates, Perry is known for his tireless work ethic and his ability to spot potential issues before they arise.
“JP is the complete package, always willing to go the extra mile,” said Sam McCullough, Asset Reliability Manager at Marathon Petroleum. “We’re proud to have nominated him and even prouder to see his contributions being recognized by others.”
Perry’s professional journey reflects nearly a decade of experience in the industry as a maintenance supervisor and maintenance manager before coming to Marathon Petroleum. His ability to leverage relationships with manufacturers and vendors combined with his technical expertise has been instrumental in ensuring equipment reliability and availability at Marathon Petroleum.
“I’m just doing my part, and it’s humbling to be acknowledged alongside so many talented professionals.”
“To have two of our team members recognized by Fleet Maintenance in consecutive years speaks to the caliber of our team and the high standards this group continues to set,” McCullough said, referencing Perry’s colleague Cody Clegg, a Diesel Technician who earned the Team Player Award in 2023.
Perry’s recognition was featured in the December issue of Fleet Maintenance. His success is a testament to his dedication and the teamwork that drives Marathon Petroleum’s operations.
Outside of work, Perry is equally dedicated to his family. He and his wife Kelly have been together for 19 years raising two daughters, Amberlynn (15) and Hailey (13). Their lively home also includes three dogs and a newly adopted cat. The family loves outdoor activities like fishing, hiking and camping, even in the San Antonio heat.
“Our house is always busy,” Perry said. “It keeps life interesting, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
