- The MPLX Seneca facility team, part of the Natural Gas and NGL Services segment in the Utica, earned Gold Star status from the Ohio Department of Transportation for five years of dedication to the Adopt-A-Highway program.
- Since 2019, the team has maintained a two-mile stretch of State Route 78 in Noble County, Ohio, helping keep the area clean and beautiful.
- Adopt-A-Highway is one of many ways the team gives back to their community through volunteer efforts and local support.
At Marathon Petroleum's Seneca Processing Facility in Summerfield, Ohio, the team’s commitment to their community isn’t anything new. As part of the company’s midstream segment, MPLX and its Natural Gas and NGL Services segment, the Seneca team has been showing up for their community for years.
The team was recently awarded Gold Star status by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), a distinction reserved for volunteer groups that have shown long-term dedication to the Adopt-A-Highway program.
“This group is always really focused on safety when they are out cleaning up this section of the road, and that also takes a burden off us as the organizers of this program,” said Brian Carter, Transportation Administrator at ODOT. “We are always eager to work with great partners like Marathon. This is such a great thing for the community.”
“We’re proud of the work we do here every day and taking care of our community is part of that.”
Gold Star status is not an honor that’s handed out often. To qualify, groups must be part of the program for at least five years, meet annual requirements and consistently clean their adopted section of roadway.

“For our team, this recognition is meaningful because it speaks to the time and effort we’ve put in over the years,” said Constance Archer, an MPLX Planner at the Seneca facility. “We’re proud of the work we do here every day and taking care of our community is part of that.”
The Utica team first adopted a two-mile stretch of State Route 78 in Noble County back in 2019. Almost immediately, people driving by noticed there was a lot less litter along the roadway. That cleaner, safer stretch of highway is something the team has worked to maintain year after year.
To mark the achievement ODOT recently installed new signage along Route 78 featuring the team’s name, MPLX Utica Employees, along with the designation as a Gold Star Group, a simple but meaningful reminder of the difference this group has made.
For the Utica team, Adopt-A-Highway is just one way they give to their community. Over the years, employees have supported local youth programs, donated to area food pantries and helped clean up nearby parks. They’ve even pitched in their own money to build dugouts at a local ballpark.
