Galveston Bay refinery named 2022 Large Business of the Year

Galveston Bay, Texas, Foundation- Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay refinery was named the 2022 Large Business of the Year by the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce.
- The award recognizes Marathon’s ongoing commitment to excellence and positive contributions in the community.
- In 2022, Marathon’s investments in the local community included a $1 million, multi-year grant supporting Texas City public schools’ robotics program.
On Jan. 10, the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce named Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay refinery as its 2022 Large Business of the Year. The chamber president and CEO, Tim Culp, made the announcement at the onset of an employee town hall at Marathon’s facility located in Texas City.
“I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to tell you first,” Culp told the audience of Marathon employees and contractors. “This award recognizes your commitment to excellence and the positive contributions and progress that you have made in our community as a result.”
In addition to investments in education, including a $1 million, multi-year grant to support the robotics program at Texas City Independent School District (TCISD) in 2022, refinery employees held a drive for the local food bank, quickly collecting more than 600 pounds of food to help fight hunger throughout Galveston County.

Since 2000, the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce has recognized an outstanding business that is dedicated to promoting progress and striving for success.
Marathon was officially honored on Jan. 19 at the Chamber’s membership gala in front of area business and civic leaders at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City.
