Some small businesses in Detroit got a little boost in sales during the Fueling Detroit Small Business Saturday event at the Kemeny Recreation Center earlier this year. Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s (MPC) Detroit refinery hosted the event, spotlighting Small Business Saturday in a vibrant celebration of local entrepreneurship and community spirit.
The event drew nearly 500 attendees, making it one of the most well-attended Fueling Detroit events. The first 200 guests received a $20 voucher to spend at vendor tables. Attendees enjoyed complimentary meals from three Southwest Detroit-based food trucks, further highlighting the city’s rich culinary scene. All 63 participating vendors were reimbursed by the Detroit refinery, giving direct support to local businesses.
In total, the Detroit Refinery invested over $21,000 into the local economy in a single day, reinforcing its commitment to community-driven growth.
“Supporting small businesses isn’t just about economics, it’s about building a thriving, connected community,” said MPC Community Relations Representative BreAnna Lockhart. “When we invest in our neighbors, we create opportunities, foster pride and strengthen the fabric of Detroit.”
