• Marathon Petroleum’s annual food feud brings in a record-setting 20,981 pounds of food benefiting dozens of food rescue agencies in Kentucky and Ohio.
• In its 5^th year, the friendly competition brings together four Marathon divisions, located in Kentucky and West Virginia.
• Since its inception, employees from Marathon have donated more than 70,000 pounds of food for people in need.

In its 5th year, the friendly but always competitive Food Feud between four Marathon Petroleum divisions brought in its largest donation yet to River Cities Harvest in Ashland, Kentucky, a food rescue agency that supplies more than two dozen food pantries in Kentucky and Ohio.

The friendly competition kicked off in early January, with the final weigh-in held in mid-February, totaling a record 20,981 pounds of food, topping last year’s total by almost 7,000 pounds.

“The food bank shelves are greatly depleted during this time of year, and the donations will be put to good use,” said Brittnany Hoback, River Cities Harvest Exec. Director. “We just couldn’t make it without your support each year.”

Participating in this year’s competition were employees from the Catlettsburg refinery, Refining Analytical Development (RAD) and Marine divisions in Kentucky, and the Midstream division located in nearby Kenova, West Virginia.

“We were so thrilled to learn this year’s total topped 20,000 pounds, knowing our donation was going to help more families than ever before,” Gail Watts, RAD Manager. “We may work in different divisions here at Marathon, but our goal is the same – to help as many people as possible.”  

Food Feud Results:

• Coming in first place and winning the traveling trophy, RAD won the Food Feud with 5,663 pounds of food collected which equals an average of 73.55 pounds per employee.
• Midstream came in second with more than 24 pounds per employee for a total of 1,878 pounds.
• Refining collected 8,741 pounds of food, about 14 pounds per employee, with the Catlettsburg Blending Department collecting more than 100 pounds per employee.
• Marine made a significant contribution, collecting 3,699 pounds of food collected, a little over 7 pounds per employee.
• The Catlettsburg refinery donated an additional $1,000 through its local giving fund.

Since the Food Feud’s inception, Marathon employees have donated more than 70,000 pounds to dozens of food pantries in Boyd, Greenup and Lawrence counties in Kentucky and Lawrence County in Ohio.
