Every year our golf outings show that a day on the course can be about more than good shots and friendly competition. Once again, starting in the spring and running through the summer, our employees and contractors from across our operations came together with nonprofits to host tournaments that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Those dollars are now helping fund programs that support families, strengthen neighborhoods and make life better in the communities we call home.

At Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), these events are more than a tradition. They are a powerful way we come together with nonprofit partners to create lasting impact.

The team from our refinery in Canton, Ohio, donated nearly $150,000 to the United Way of Stark County during its three-day tournament at the end of September. This marked the refinery’s tenth annual event, bringing together 400 golfers, 50 volunteers and 40 sponsors. Proceeds will help support families across the community, with a focus on those with children ages 0 to 8. The local United Way shared their appreciation, saying, “We’re so grateful for their dedication and hard work in making this event such a success.”

The Catlettsburg Refinery Golf Classic in May raised $106,504 for the United Way of Northeast Kentucky. More than 300 employees and contractors took part at Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland.

Proceeds from the annual outing support the United Way’s giving campaign and benefit local agencies in Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Elliott and Lawrence counties. Grants help strengthen families, nurture children and youth, promote health and wellness, and empower neighborhoods.

The Catlettsburg refinery has hosted the outing for more than 20 years. The event has raised more than $1.9 million for the United Way.

Our Marine Transportation team, also based in Catlettsburg, hosted its annual golf scramble in September to benefit the United Way of Northeast Kentucky. One hundred sixty golfers hit the course for a great cause, raising more than $106,000 to support United Way programs that help children and families across five Kentucky counties through health, wellness and other quality-of-life services.

Hosted by MPC’s Detroit refinery at Fox Hills Golf Course in May, this year’s event contributed $321,000 to help homeowners make essential repairs that improve health and safety.

Los Angeles, California

In August, our Los Angeles refinery celebrated the 50th anniversary of its annual golf outing, bringing together employees, contractors and community partners for a day of fun and friendly competition. The event raised $585,000 to support three local YMCA community centers: Wilmington YMCA, Gardena-Carson Family YMCA and Fairfield Family YMCA, along with the families they serve. In just the last two years, the golf outing has raised more than $1 million for local YMCAs.

Robinson, Illinois

With another strong showing this year, 500 golfers, including employees and contractors from Marathon Petroleum’s Robinson refinery in Illinois, took part in the annual outing, raising nearly $200,000 for the United Way of Crawford County. Proceeds from the two-day event will support neighbors and youth in need and help United Way expand programs that improve quality of life across the region. This ongoing effort has now generated more than a half million dollars over the past three years.

At our St. Paul Park refinery in Minnesota, the annual golf outing, which was held in Stillwater, raised $219,000 for Gillette Children’s Hospital. It was the second year in a row the proceeds benefited the nonprofit, which specializes in care for patients with brain, bone and movement conditions, along with services that bring families comfort and healing.

Following the day on the course, an evening event featured the check presentation and remarks from parents of a 7-year-old patient. They shared their family’s journey with Gillette and emphasized how support from corporate partners like Marathon is critical to making a difference in the lives of children and families.

The MPLX NG & NGL Services West Giving Committee proudly supported several community-focused golf tournaments this season, contributing funds to causes that serve children, families, and local development. Each event was attended by four-person teams made up of MPLX employees, who represented the company while supporting meaningful causes such as child advocacy, foster care support and community engagement in Western Oklahoma.
