Nonprofit organizations on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska were the big winners of a three-day fishing event hosted by Marathon Petroleum’s Kenai refinery. The second annual Catching for a Cause netted $120,000 for local charities.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the success of this event,” said Senior Refining Maintenance Planner Jon Kruger, who helped organize the event. “We raised nearly $40,000 more than we did last year. That is going to greatly benefit the many nonprofit organizations that are doing amazing work in our community.”

Refinery employees, contractors and sponsors participated in the three-day fishing trip that included networking and fishing for silver salmon and sockeye salmon on the Crescent Lake and the Kenai River.

“It’s a great way for our employees and business partners to network, explore this beautiful state, and support the community,” said Bruce Jackman, General Manager of the Kenai Refinery. “It’s a win-win, and I’m so proud of the good that will come from this event.”

The profits from the event will be distributed to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank (KPFB) and other nonprofit organizations in the community.
