Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) and the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico (ARCO Mexican Pacific League) have established a strategic alliance that will support the Williamsport-affiliated Ligas Pequeñas de Beisbol (Little League Baseball of Mexico) program through the project “Lanzadores Del Futuro” (LDF). As part of a larger marketing partnership with the professional baseball league of Mexico, the initiative launched in March and has already made an impact.
“Through the ARCO® retail brand in México, MPC explored further ways to make a meaningful impact in the area. We quickly recognized there was an opportunity to support the youth and enhance education,” said Leonardo Girón, Commercial and Marketing Director for Latin America at MPC. “This partnership allows us to contribute to the local community in a way that aligns with our broader commitment to generate shared value and support thriving communities.”
The Little Leagues of Mexico thanked MPC for the support that helps provide sports scholarships for low-income players, investment to improve the baseball fields and the funding for new sports equipment. In addition, the program sponsors baseball clinics run by Mexico Hall of Fame players such as Oscar Villarreal, a former Major League Baseball player. So far, more than 220 children have participated in five sports clinics in Monterrey. They expanded the clinics to Mexico City in September and will also host events in Tijuana and Guadalajara.
During the 2023 ONEXPO Convention, the main annual event of Mexico´s fuel industry, held in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, MPC was awarded the Gasoline Leadership Award in the social responsibility category for its LDF initiative.
MPC, through Tesoro Mexico, has more than 230 ARCO and 50 TESORO™ branded stations across the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Nuevo Leon. Tesoro Mexico also markets fuel products to unbranded retail sites and other companies for industrial purposes.
