Marathon Petroleum’s Los Angeles refinery was recently honored with the prestigious John C. Wallace Dream Maker Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. The announcement was made during the organization’s 2024 Youth of the Year celebration, which recognizes inspiring teens for their outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.

“The Los Angeles refinery has made it a priority to be actively involved in the community,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach CEO Don Rodriguez. “For more than a decade, they have been a steadfast supporter of our club, providing over $1 million in funding for our teen programs.”

These vital programs include the Diplomas to Degrees (d2D) college readiness initiative, individualized case management, coverage of college application fees, and homework help and tutoring. In recognition of Marathon Petroleum’s significant contributions, one of the club’s activity rooms was recently renamed the Marathon Think Tank.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach has been instrumental in fostering the growth and development of countless young people,” said Leatha Hallmark, Operations Manager at the Los Angeles refinery, who accepted the award at the ceremony. “We are incredibly honored to receive the John C. Wallace Dream Maker Award. Supporting programs that empower youth in our community is a privilege, and we are committed to helping pave the way for their future success.”

The team from Marathon, along with about 300 others in attendance at the awards ceremony, also witnessed history. For the first time in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach’s history, the Club named twins as the winners of their annual Youth of the Year Award. Marathon Petroleum extends its congratulations to the brother and sister duo, Oscar and Emani Jammott, on their big win.
