Key Points

  •  Marathon Petroleum's Mandan refinery helped support local hunger-relief efforts through a frozen meal donation.
  • The contribution provided approximately 500 ready-to-eat meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity.
  • Great Plains Food Bank reaches communities across North Dakota and serves more than 160,000 people each year.

The Supply Chain team at Marathon Petroleum’s refinery in Mandan, North Dakota, donated nearly 400 pounds of frozen meals to the Great Plains Food Bank in nearby Bismarck, helping support individuals and families facing food insecurity.

The refinery originally purchased the approximately 500 individually packaged meals to keep on hand for onsite needs, storing them in dedicated, secured freezers. When it was determined that the meals were no longer needed at the refinery, the team identified an opportunity to put them to good use in the community. Supply Chain team members packed the meals into small bins, safely and securely transported them to the food bank and helped unload them into the facility’s freezers.

According to the food bank, ready-to-eat meals like these are in high demand among the individuals and families it serves across North Dakota.

"This was truly a team effort, and we're proud to support an organization that helps so many people across North Dakota."

“We cannot thank Marathon Petroleum and the team at the Mandan refinery enough for once again supporting our food bank through this generous donation,” said Ann Prifrel, CEO of Great Plains Food Bank. “They understand our mission and share our commitment to helping ensure neighbors across our communities have access to nourishing food.”

“The food bank plays a vital role in our community, and as supply chain professionals, we understand how timely access to essential resources can make a meaningful difference,” said Daniel Schmit, Supply Chain Director at the Mandan refinery. “This was truly a team effort, and we’re proud to support an organization that helps so many people across North Dakota.”

Founded in 1983, the Great Plains Food Bank serves more than 160,000 individuals each year, providing food assistance to communities across North Dakota.
