A water main break in southwest Detroit caused more than 200 homes to flood in February. Families were forced to leave their homes while the city works to clean and repair the homes damaged. To support those families, Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery partnered with Wayne State University’s Center for Urban Studies, LA SED and State Representative Tyrone Carter to provide essential items.
“It’s heartbreaking to see families displaced from their homes, especially during winter,” said Marathon Petroleum Community Relations Representative BreAnna Lockhart. “We were able to get much needed supplies to provide some relief during this tough time.”
The volunteers handed out 100 gift cards to a local grocery store, 290 food kits, 150 cleaning kits, 150 pet supply kits, 124 personal hygiene kits for men and women, and 196 space heaters and blankets.
The families don’t expect to return to their homes for at least six weeks.
