Integrity is Expected
If you view the pages of our company history, you'll note we have American roots. The company was birthed from and built on strong values, something of which we are all very proud. Honesty and integrity are and always will be very important to us. That is why our company adheres to very strict governance practices and operates transparently in all engagements.
Operational Excellence Management System
We believe that everyone – including our employees, contractors and business partners – shares responsibility for our HESS&PQ and sustainability performance. MPC’s Operational Excellence Management System framework aligns with RC14001® and ISO 9001 requirements and provides a systemic approach to advancing performance by outlining requirements that will enable us to achieve our goals and ensure our long-term success.
Critical Oversight
Responsibility for risk oversight begins with our Board of Directors. Several subcommittees are in place to assist and advise the full board about a variety of matters: financial and accounting, regulatory compliance, compensation practices and programs, governance issues, sustainability and much more. Our Board receives data security updates that include cybersecurity resilience information and emerging trends, as well as updates on company initiatives in this area.
Human Rights and Core Values
At MPC, our core values, as found in our Code of Business Conduct and Sustainability Report, reinforced by our Board of Directors and executive management team, and promoted throughout our business and operations, are Safety and Environmental Stewardship, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion and Collaboration. With these values as the foundation of our corporate culture, we work to make a positive difference in the communities where we have the privilege to operate. We respect the human, cultural and legal rights of all individuals and communities, including but not limited to our value chain partners, and promote the goals and principles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our commitment extends to the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, including indigenous people, regardless of race, color, national origin or income level.

These disclosures provide transparency into how we pursue our business objectives and manage the risks inherent to energy-sector companies such as ours.
As a predominantly U.S. domestic company, we recognize that our federal and state governments have the primary responsibility for protecting human rights and ensuring the rights of indigenous people within the U.S. There are robust permitting processes for energy facility and infrastructure projects that provide a means of public comment and participation, and judicial oversight is, of course, a hallmark of our domestic system of government. But we in business have a role as well. Marathon Petroleum Corporation is proud of our commitment to our core values and invite our investors and other stakeholders to review these important materials.
