This spring, 70 veterans will travel to Washington, D.C., with Honor Flight Kentucky thanks to fundraising efforts by employees and contractors. The effort was led by employees at the Catlettsburg refinery, with contributions from employees and contractors in Marine transportation, TT&R and others located in Russell, Kentucky.
The fundraising goal was $35,000 by Sept. 30. Employees met that goal and raised an additional $3,158 for Honor Flight guardians.
Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. Its mission is to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends. In April, veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War will travel to D.C.
MPC employees, contractors and veterans’ family members also will attend a welcome-home celebration at the airport.
“I believe it is important for us to support the Honor Flight for veterans because they are truly the American heroes,” said Greg Jackson, senior manager of human resources, Eastern refining operations. “We are proud to support veterans and to be part of this noble mission.”
