Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois Refining Division (IRD) committed to help fund a new all-inclusive playground in the Robinson community. Recently, the $15,000 donation was presented to the City of Robinson.
The donation was presented to Mike Shimer, superintendent of parks and recreation, at the future site of the playground. “The all-inclusive playground will be a benefit to our community for all kids to play and interact regardless of abilities,” he said.
Plans for the playground include low-incline entry ramps, structures to provide shade, and a fence with a walkway to enclose the area. The City of Robinson’s parks and recreation department plans to complete the playground in the spring of 2021.
