Marathon Petroleum’s Marine Transportation provides services that meet the marine transportation needs of Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC). Marine transportation movements are scheduled in the Gulf of Mexico, Great Lakes, and inland rivers. Offices are located in Catlettsburg, Ky., Findlay, Ohio, and Garyville, La. Gulf of Mexico and Great Lakes movements require the use of contracted and chartered vessels, the oversight and management of which are handled by logistics and commercial services, and tanker and vetting personnel in Findlay and Garyville.

Marine Transportation’s inland river fleet is one of the largest private domestic fleets of inland petroleum product barges. All cargoes transported are liquid and include among other commodities crude oil, asphalt, gasoline, diesel fuel, vacuum gas oil, feedstocks, chemicals and ethanol.

Marine Transportation’s operations include 18 owned and one leased inland waterway towboats with 201 owned and 14 leased barges, as well as contracted and chartered equipment. While the majority of river voyages take place on the Ohio River between Pittsburgh, Pa., and Paducah, Ky., other movements are regularly scheduled on the Mississippi, Illinois, Allegheny, Monongahela, Kanawha, Tennessee and Cumberland rivers. Ports of call include MPC refineries at Catlettsburg, Ky., and Garyville, La., along with numerous distribution terminal (storage) facilities throughout the Midwest and South.

To support the fleet of inland towboats and barges, MPC also operates a marine repair facility at Catlettsburg, Ky. This repair facility and MPC marine engineers oversee the maintenance of all marine equipment
