Heavy Oil

Marathon Petroleum also markets heavy oil, also known as fuel oil, residual fuel or slurry. Another product of crude oil, heavy oil is primarily used in the utility and ship bunkering (fuel) industries, though there are other more specialized uses of the product.

Production Information and Marketing
Marathon Petroleum manufactures and markets heavy oil at all six refineries. Heavy oil is also sold at its Wellsville, Ohio terminal.

Transportation
Heavy oils are transported and sold via barge, railcar and transport truck.
