Heavy Oil

Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC) also markets heavy oil components, also known as fuel oil, residual fuel or slurry. Another product of crude oil, heavy oil is primarily used in the utility and ship bunkering (fuel) industries, though there are other more specialized uses of the product.

Production Information and Marketing
MPC manufactures and markets heavy oil components at all seven refineries. Although MPC is a marketer of heavy oil components suitable for various blending and feedstock applications, MPC is not a marketer of specification bunker and industrial fuel oils.

Transportation
Heavy oils are transported and sold via barge, railcar and transport truck.
