Marathon was the first petroleum company to volunteer for participation in the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care®
initiative, which previously had targeted improvement in the chemical
industry. We have implemented a management system that's subject to
third-party audits, with the results published on the ACC website. |

As a participant in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), we have agreed to establish a managed safety and health system at many of our facilities and to on-site assessment and evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts. |

We also are among only 500 members who have demonstrated environmental commitment by signing on with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Environmental Performance Track. NEPT companies go beyond legal requirements to improve the quality of our nation's air, water and land. |

| I’m proud to be part of a company that goes beyond government mandates in terms of safety and environmental protection. One example is the fact that we were the first petroleum company to volunteer for the ACC’s Responsible Care® program, which has been implemented companywide. Our group continually researches and updates Marathon marketing customers on legislation, as well as potential risks and other issues that could impact them – not because we’re required to do it, but because it’s the right thing to do. I’ve spent my entire career at Marathon, and that’s one of the reasons why. |
