Keeping the Holiday Spirit Year-Round

Each December finds Marathon Clothe-a-Child volunteers taking disadvantaged children shopping for new clothes. Additionally, the team works year-round with local schools to identify children in need of clothing.

Through fundraisers and corporate and individual donations, they raised nearly $40,000 in 2007---all going to clothe nearly 200 needy children and help flood and fire victims. Local businesses also provide services and discounts to help stretch the funds as much as possible.

”I brought my 14-year-old son with me on the shopping trip and he made the comment that ‘This is such a great program I want to do it again next year,’” said one volunteer. “To touch a teenager like that speaks volumes to the importance and impact of the program, not only for those who are being shopped for, but also for those who are volunteering!”
